Sarah's limit

I have written a lot about sleep in my blogs. My kids don't like to go to sleep. We have waged all out sleep wars in our house. I have never, ever, ever had a kid tell me they are ready for bed.

Until last night...

After two days of family, six hours in the car and botched naps, Sarah was ready for bed last night. Coming home, Jeff texted me to find out what the plan would be when we got home with the girls. We were getting home after 7 p.m. without having had dinner. I said dinner, no bath. He was ready.

Sarah told Jeff, "No, thank you. My tummy is full. I need to put on pajamas and go to sleep."

And she followed through on it. I helped her get ready for bed while Jeff sat with Jessica to eat dinner. She could hardly wait to get under the covers on her bed. She did, however, also tell me while we were getting ready for bed and she ran her fingers through my hair that she "liked my hair a little bit. Not a lot. A little bit."

Meanwhile, Jessica was on the more usual hyperactive tear that we see when slightly sleep deprived. She found a toy kaleidoscopic, which she used like a microphone to interview Jeff and me about Baby Jesus. Apparently Jeff gave a really good answer while I was with Sarah because I was admonished for my incorrect attempts to answer her questions, and she said I needed to "do it like Daddy!"

Both girls were still in bed and quiet by 8 p.m.
